The IMPACT Performance Festival showcases performance work by MFA and BFA students, in the SAIC class of 2021. The festival took place virtually over the weekend of Saturday, April 17 and Sunday, April 18 2021. This archive includes more information about each work presented in the festival.
Coming together from the SAIC departments of Art and Technology, Performance, Sound, and Writing, and the BFA in studio program, the eight artists presenting work in this year’s festival committed to a production process in which they invested in each other’s work.
The process was deeply collaborative, with participating artists sharing works in progress, exchanging feedback, and even performing in each other’s work. This group co-programmed and conceptualized the festival together while transforming their individual practices to meet the circumstances of the moment and exploring what it means to present live streamed performance. In addition to the live stream of the festival on the IMPACT webpage there was a Zoom Watch Party for each day. This watch part included remarks from faculty, participating artists, moments of shared celebration and interactive performances, all streamed into the festival broadcast. By hosting the Zoom Watch Party we hoped to put an emphasis on the communal experience of an audience coming together and celebrating the work being shown.
Participating Artists: Jordan Knecht, Corey Smith, DJ Malinowski, Ben Kim Paplham, llio sophia, Anna Schwartz, Sal Moreno and Zoë Vulgamott.
